Our History

The history of CAMARB – Business Mediation and Arbitration Chamber – Brazil merges with the history of arbitration in Brazil, rejuvenated by the enactment of the Brazilian Arbitration Act – Federal Law No. 9,307 – in 1996, which unveiled new horizons for its development, both domestically and internationally.

CAMARB was established in 1998 with the name Câmara de Arbitragem de Minas Gerais (Arbitration Chamber of Minas Gerais), being initially linked to the Federation of Industries of the State of Minas Gerais (FIEMG).

Two years later, with the support of other business and academic entities – Sindicato da Indústria da Construção Pesada no Estado de Minas Gerais (Association of the Heavy Construction Industry in the State of Minas Gerais) (SICEPOT/MG), Instituto dos Advogados de Minas Gerais (Minas Gerais Lawyers’ Institute) (IAMG), Pontifícia Universidade Católica de Minas Gerais (Pontifical Catholic University of Minas Gerais) (PUC/Minas) and Fundação Dom Cabral (Dom Cabral Foundation) (FDC), CAMARB became an association, becoming a Chamber with functional autonomy and independence.

CAMARB is an association with non-economic purposes, which has an Advisory Board, a Board of Directors and a Secretariat in its organizational structure.

The Chamber’s Advisory Board is composed of experienced professionals with recognized business and legal expertise, especially related to the resolution of disputes. Professionals of recognized and well-known performance in arbitration are members of the CAMARB’s Board of Directors.

The Secretariat has secretaries of proceedings who carefully monitor the progress of all cases under the coordination of the Secretary-General and the Deputy Secretary-General. This unique follow-up in case administration, together with the constant concern with innovation and user satisfaction, make CAMARB a reference in the quality of services offered.

The Chamber has offices in São Paulo, Belo Horizonte, Rio de Janeiro, Recife, Brasília, and Salvador, with large and modern space for the holding of hearings and a team ready to ensure an agile and outstanding service, which makes CAMARB to be recognized as one of the main Chambers in the country.

Over the last years, CAMARB has administered a series of proceedings, with recognized experience and quality, being currently ranked among the five main Arbitration Chambers in the country, always maintaining a high level of satisfaction of its users, becoming a reference in Brazil in this segment.
